1920s Asymmetric Ethel Skirt - Rust
Ooo what a marvel of a skirt! A lovely new addition to our 1920s collection which took pondering to a new level. A late-1920s-inspired design with asymmetry and simple linesto create a super wearable skirt for everyday or night.. Read more in our guide to 1920s dresses for the modern woman.”
We have been wanting to bring some 1920s separates into the Foxy archive for a while...The challenge; create a skirt that gives a heavy nod to the 1920s but can integrate well into any vintage fashionista's wardrobe....The result - Ethel and she's a real gem and we honestly believe she can worn well with other eras too.
After researching for ages - the usual paths - clothing catalogues, photos and original patterns - this skirt is certainly more 'inspired' than an authentic original. One of the things we love so much about the mid 1920s onwards is its use of assymetry and the hankerchief styles hems. So Ethel is our 'take' on that.
For more asymmetric and handkerchief hems, see the 1920s Laverne Dress and Kimono and the 1920s Kitty Dress.
A handkerchief hem falls in soft, pointed panels, like a handkerchief held by its corners, and was a favourite of the mid-1920s onwards. The Ethel is cut with a fitted hip panel that runs diagonally across the hips, with a near-circular handkerchief panel falling below it. The bias panels are cut diagonally across the grain, so the skirt moves and drapes softly. It has a hidden waistband and no zip, so it simply pulls on.
You will love how it swirls as you move. We've lined her too.
Pair it with our 1920s Olive Blouse in Art Deco Fan Georgette, whose print picks up the rust, or add the matching Trim Sash.
